WHAT IS NATURAL STANCE BALANCE ?
In
a normal, relaxed standing position, as shown, you are strongly balanced from
side to side,
that is, you can resist a push from either side. But in this
position, you are very weak from
front to back; you can easily be pulled
forward or pushed backward. Since you will not spend
the rest of your life
anticipating attack wherever you go, you might find yourself in this stance
when confronted by an attacking adversary. Part of your training should be how
to move
quickly into a stronger balance even when you make no other preparation
to fight. If you side
into a T-position while you are determining whether or
not it is possible to avoid fighting, you
are not making an obviously
aggressive move, yet are better prepared, if necessary, to carry on
in the
event you are forced to defend yourself.
